Transnet Freight Rail (TFR) is undertaking operations to restore operations on the railway corridor carrying ore from Sishen in the Northern Cape to the Port of Saldanha, following another train derailment on the line.
TFR said in a brief statement on Thursday afternoon that “urgent recovery efforts are underway to restore operations to its Ore Corridor”.
“This after a derailment of wagons in the early hours of Wednesday, 14 June. TFR teams were dispatched to the scene immediately, and recovery efforts began in earnest,” the state-owned entity said.
No further details regarding the cause of the latest incident nor information regarding an investigation were provided at the time of publication.
The latest derailment on the ore line follows a series of similar incidents and reports of cable theft that led to power failures on the corridor over the past few weeks.
