The Northwest Seaport Alliance (NWSA) reported its highest monthly container volume of the year in June, with 252,232 TEUs. Full imports rose 16.1% over May, while full exports rose 5%.
NWSA noted that the stability of ocean service schedules at the gateway has increased. Total container volume in June dropped by 18.4% compared to June 2022, while full-month imports fell by 19.9% and full-month exports declined by 13.8%.
“Year-over-year comparisons continue to reflect the pandemic-driven conditions of 2022 and ongoing soft import demand relative to last year,” commented NWSA.
From the start of the year until June, NWSA’s TEUs fell 22.8% year-on-year to 1,394,347 TEUs, with total imports and exports down 29% and 4.2%, respectively.
